Bulgarian water polo clubs play in European tournaments after a quarter-century break

From Thursday to Sunday, two Bulgarian water polo clubs will play in the European LEN Challenger Cup tournament. These are the men’s squads of Komodor (Varna) and the women’s squads of Lokomotiv NN. The participation comes after a quarter-century break since the last appearance of a native team in the club tournaments of the Old Continent. These are the matches with a 21-year expiration of the Komodor men in the LEN Trophy tournament in 2002. Before that, Slavia also played in the same tournament in 1998.

Komodor is in a group with the Turkish ENKA, Zaibas from Lithuania, Valletta from Malta and the Finnish Espoo. The matches are at the swimming pool in Gzira, Malta. At the same swimming pool in the summer, the Bulgarian men’s national team played in the European qualification.

Lokomotiv NN hosts the teams from its group in Burgas, which also includes Sirens (Malta), Red Star (Serbia), Otter (Great Britain) and Fluvial (Portugal). The matches at the “Park Arena OZK” pool will also take place from Thursday to Sunday.
